Purpose of the role

We are seeking a motivated Research Associate or Senior Research Associate to join the Metabolics team.  You will be supporting the team via technical expertise and by assisting in experiments, and research under the direction of a senior scientist.

 

Key areas of responsibility

 

  • Contributes to the definition and timely achievement of overall project goals. Makes recommendations, and when appropriate, acts independently as well as with a group to resolve scientific problems encountered during experimental procedures.
  • Writes compliance documentation associated with investigations, data analyses, and experimental conclusions as required for the QMS.
  • Works in the laboratory with plasma and other biological fluids of human and animal origin.
  • Achieve project objectives by troubleshooting experiments and testing practical and creative solutions.
  • Accurately, consistently, and promptly records experimental methods, materials and results in electronic laboratory notebooks. Analyses data, evaluates results, forms conclusions and implements/documents process improvements.
  • Work independently as well as with a larger team.
  • Liaise with external contractors, suppliers and consultants where necessary.
  • Perform all processes in accordance with Corporate and Local QMS

 

Technical


Essential skills

  • Bachelor or Masters degree in chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry, or similar technical program.
  • 2-5 years industry experience.
  • Familiar with affinity-based assays. This includes building titration curves based on immunoassays and direct binding assays.  Example assays include: photoinduced electron transfer, antibody sandwich assays and immunoprecipitation, FRET, and other direct binding assays with fluorescence-based readouts.
  • Familiar with purification techniques including HPLC and size exclusion chromatography.
  • Must be detail oriented and highly motivated.
  • Ability to write clear and concise protocols for complex assay methodologies.
  • Experienced in summarizing and communicating project data for senior staff and stakeholders.
  • Computer literacy and data analysis skills.


Desirable skills

  • Has been involved in projects that have led to CE Marking and/or 510K approved products
  • Programming experience.
  • Familiar with immobilization techniques to solid phase media such as silica beads or hydrogels
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of conjugation techniques including working with NHS, Maleimide, and click chemistry.
  • Familiar with binding kinetics.
  • Knowledge of fluorescent detection and other assay detection architectures.
  • Experience and understanding of factors important in reagent preparation and drying for use in POC assays.
  • Experience working in the IVD industry and has launched IVD products.
  • Knowledge and experience of working within a biohazard environment.
